About this Course
If you quail when you encounter a sesquipedalian or are disquieted to hear yourself voicing with banal vocabulary, join the club!
Using the Prythian series by Sarah J. Maas, you’ll be enjoying our heroine’s journey with a facilitator who will call out the powerful, juicy, and delicious vocabulary for dissection and discussion. Let’s be honest: most of us just skipped over words like quarry, spindrift, and fletching. We don’t ever really think about the roots, stems, and affixes of words like consumption, salvage, or commodities, and how knowing those could save our bacon in a variety of interpreting settings. If you just like to challenge yourself, you’re going to be analyzing HUNDREDS of less common English words.
Through discussion and independent work, participants will develop skills and improved abilities in definitions, affixes and root words, and discuss different contexts where they may encounter a covered word or parts of a covered word.
Your facilitator: Rae Rose is a BEI: Advanced, EIPA, A:EI (CO) interpreter of 19 years, and the owner of the Rose Sign Language Interpreting for 16 years. Most of her interpreting work is in behavioral health, medical, and K-12. As an interpreting mentor and coach, she excels in identifying problematic patterns in a mentee’s work, and then creating activities to specifically target those skills.
Sessions conducted online in English. Please make requests for accommodations at least 2 weeks prior to start date. Refunds available until 1 week before start date.
